Wherever their next adventures take them, Delgado sees Athena as an ambassador for rescue horses. Several equestrian magazines have featured their story, and their Instagram feed has more than 2,500 followers. Delgado has turned down five-figure purchase offers for the mare who has become her best friend — and who she could never have afforded in a sleek, pedigreed package.
